Success And Guilt

Have you ever felt guilty about your success?

In this video, I’m going to share with you a little bit about why this happens and what you can possibly do about it.

It reminds me of a client of mine who called me one day to tell me he’d just sold his company. He said: “I feel guilty. Why do I feel guilty? This makes no sense”. Whether you’ve sold your company or just hit a certain inflection point in your life of success by everyday standards, there might be a little bit of guilt that you can’t explain.

If you don’t actually handle this, what happens is you start to sabotage that success. There’s a work by Bert Hellinger, a German psychotherapist who wrote, “In a family of thieves, one who doesn’t steal feels guilty”.

This stems from a deep need to belong as human beings. It’s innate in us and as we start to reach the levels of success that we want, or even deeper fulfillment in our life, there’s a funny tinge of guilt that comes with it. This is actually normal.

It means that it’s time to normalise the level of impact you’d like to have and create greater fulfillment by surrounding yourself with different types of people where fulfillment, deeper success and greater meaning are normal.

Take care,
