Pots, Pans, and Other Solutions (2012)

Iceland, the first country in Europe to recover from an economic meltdown, is on the brink of a revolution. Its citizens learned that they have the power to demand democratic participation in society, forcing the government to develop new ways to govern the country with the direct participation of the public.

The efforts of the Icelandic citizens helped launch a council that wrote a new constitution, a citizens’ group that allows open discussions and processes to everyone. This unprecedented change in government helped organize Iceland’s citizen according to their chose associations. Each group can develop proposals and everyone can participate in creating such proposals. Although the local media was never forthcoming about these associations, the film, which debuted in 2012 highlights the people who fought for control over mounting national debts, developing solutions to help the country recover from economic slump.
