“A History of God” is a 2001 documentary film based on the best-selling book made by Karen Armstrong having the same title. The film focuses on the three major monotheistic religions: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. It details how the belief in God could have originated in the Middle East during ancient times and discusses how this has transformed into the different religions of today.
In the past, most people participate in paganism and believe in not one but several gods. However, the majority of people today are monotheists, or they believe in only one god.
Nevertheless, there are still religions that believe in saints and other divine beings that replaced the polytheistic gods who “specialize” in specific tasks or areas. This film examines how God is perceived by the different religions of the world. Historic documents and artifacts are also used to fully understand the Divine Power that all religions pray to.
