How To Build a 400 Square Foot Solar Powered Off Grid Cabin for $2,000

This short video shows how Lamar Alexander was able to make a cabin powered by solar and wind power. Not only are the materials used to create said cabin is inexpensive, Alexander does not need to pay mortgages for it too. The cabin measures 400 square feet of living space and can comfortably house up to 6 people. It has a full loft, a large bedroom and office while the ground floor has a bathroom, living room, kitchen, and dining area.

Lamar Alexander’s cabin uses 580 watts of solar power and 400 watts of wind power that can power televisions, various gadgets, lights, a 12-volt fridge, a laptop, and water pump. Propane and wood stove is used for heat source while the toilet utilizes a septic tank system or through composting. The cabin is fully insulated to protect the residents from harsh climates. It has been designed to last for a year and is perfect for families who are just beginning their lives and for vacation cabins.
