The Tribal Eye: Woven Gardens

“Woven Gardens” is a documentary film about the rugs made by the Gashqai Nomads of Iran. These woven works of art are not just beautiful with its stunning, ornate designs, but are also very useful. The rugs are mostly used for practical purposes such as protection from the cold or as saddle bags.

They wool they use is harvested from goats, sheep and camels. They then extract plant essences that they come across during their caravan journeys and the movements of the animals that carry the unfinished rugs provide them a unique yet very attractive irregularity and represent the rich culture and tradition of the Gashqai Nomads.
