The Royal Family at Work

The Royal Family at Work also known as A Year with the Queen is a documentary TV series by BBC and RDF media, directed by Robert Hardman and narrated by Tim Pigott-Smith. This unique documentary follows the royal family of England for a span of one year.

The documentary TV series has a total of five episodes. The first one is entitled The State Visit which follows the queen as she prepares to visit the United States to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown Settlement in Virginia. We also get to see the queen as she attends a photo shoot with Annie Leibovitz.

The second episode entitled Headquarters focuses on an event at the Buckingham Palace. This state banquet was being held for the President of Ghana, John Kufuor. We get to witness all the hustle and the bustle that goes into preparing for a banquet for royalty. We also get to see the Queen as she attends her annual birthday parade.

The next episode, Head of State, focuses more on the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and his wife Cherie. We also get to witness the palace as they prepare for the State Opening of Parliament. The Queen and Us is the fourth episode which follows the Queen as she presides over the grand and annual Royal Garden Party. We then follow the Queen as she visits a Hindu Temple.

The final episode of this BBC documentary, Inside the Firm, focuses on The Prince of Wales, The Duke of York, The Earl of Wessex and The Princess Royal. We get to understand and see their particular roles in the royal family.
