The Atkins Diet is a documentary film originally screened by BBC. It is an account of one of the most controversial, widely renowned, and arguably most revolutionary diets in the history of nutrition and dietetics. According to Doctor Robert Atkins, high fat consumption leads to rapid weight loss – it completely destroyed the necessity of calorie-counting for effective weight loss. Essentially, one could eat a lot of food for as long as they avoid carbohydrate intake.
A number of famous personalities including Geri Halliwell, and Rene Zellweger abide by it. Of course, it sounded too good to be true, and some scientists dismissed it as nonsense – even dangerous. In fact, as soon as Doctor Atkins divulged his diet plan, it was initially met with destructive criticism, arguing that it disobeys one of the most basic laws of nature in addition to the fact that high fat intake results to deadly spikes in cholesterol levels – which leads to cardiac problems.
