“Wings” is a documentary series produced by Discovery Channel which presents in-depth facts and historic information about history’s most amazing aircrafts. One of the episodes they aired is about the North American Aviation XB-70 Valkyrie, which could have been the world’s first nuclear aircraft. This video looks into the prototype version of said plane made for the USAF’s Strategic Air Command to provide them a nuclear-armed deep-penetration bomber.
The North American Aviation XB-70 Valkyrie was designed in the late 50s although engineers have been trying to build it for World War II. This six-engined aircraft is equipped with the ability to fly Mach 3+ at an altitude of 70,000 feet so that it could avoid interceptors that are meant to stop bombers. The plane was completed only in 1964, way after the end of the Second World War.
