Killing Hitler

“Killing Hitler” is a docudrama released in 2003 by BBC about Operation Foxley, which was a British plan to assassinate Hitler in 1944. The British Special Operations Executive (SOE) conceived it where several options were presented although none materialized. Experts claim that either the SOE wanted to execute their plan on July 13 or 14 in 1944 as Hitler visited Berghof. Unfortunately, no attempt was made to push through with their plans.

The film was written and directed by Jeremy Lovering. He used various means to present facts such as never-before-seen footage, interviews of people who were present at that time, dramatic re-enactments, and analysis from experts. The film provides a scenario of what could have happened if the SOE went through with Operation Foxley and Hitler was killed. Experts claim that over 10,000 lives would have been spared and the destruction of many German cities would have been avoided. However, the biggest challenge that they could have faced was the positioning of the sniper, as he would have a very hard time avoiding the guards.
