“Human All Too Human” is a joint project by filmmakers Simon Chu, Jeff Morgan, and Louise Wardle. Televised in 1999, this 3-part documentary series produced by BBC explores the lives of three famous European philosophers: Jean-Paul Sartre, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Martin Heidegger. The film features the philosophical thought called existentialism despite the fact that the term was not yet existent during Nietzsche’s writing even if Heidegger declaimed the label.
The third segment of the series entitled “The Road to Freedom” is centered on the life of Jean-Paul Sartre and the time when the name existentialism was introduced in the field of philosophy. This episode explains how the French philosopher believed that every person is responsible for giving meaning and purpose to his own life.
