For All Mankind

Originally released in 1989 in a documentary film format, For All Mankind is a chronicling of the widely renowned Apollo missions of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Directed by Al Reinert, it features musical scoring by Brian Eno (later released in an album format entitled Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks) and other artists (found on the album entitled Music for Films III), and utilizes up to 80 minutes of authentic space mission footages directly from the Apollo missions that took places between the ‘60s and ‘70s.

The documentary film concentrates on the aspects of humanity in the context of space travel, and uses not only original mission visual material, but legitimate voice recordings of the astronauts included in the missions as well, including interviews from and narration voiceovers by Thomas Kenneth “Ken” Mattingly II, Michael Collins, Charles “Pete” Conrad, Jr., John Leonard “Jack” Swigert, Jr., and James Arthur “Jim” Lovell, Jr.
