Also known as the “God Particle”, the Higgs Boson is one of the most groundbreaking discoveries in particle physics. This hypothetical elementary particle was named after Peter Higgs, one of the many physicists who proposed the theory that predicted the existence of this fundamental particle. Because it is one of the most fundamental components of the fabric of the universe, no one has yet defined what the Higgs boson is.
In a documentary titled “What is the Higgs Boson”, scientists from the University of Nottingham named Roger Browley, Ed Copeland, and Tony Padilla take on the unenviable task to find the truth about the Higgs boson. Their research will give light to man’s understanding of the origin of mass, as it is a vital ingredient in the Standard Model of particle physics. In order to understand how fundamental particles like quarks and electrons have mass, scientists are turning to the Higgs field, which is a quantum field that contains non-zero value.
