The Himalayan Mountains are home to several Tibetan tribes. These people have stuck to most of their traditional ways such as pasturing yaks. One of the oldest traditions that these nomadic herdsmen do is gathering salt from the salt lakes. Every year during spring, these men go on a long journey where they are face with various challenges.
Unfortunately, the salt lakes are slowly being developed for industrial reasons with the salts being harvested by the truckloads. The Saltmen of Tibet gives a stunning look at the perils the nomads and their pack animals face in order to get salt from the lakes.
