The End of Suburbia (2004)

Written and directed by Gregory Greene, “The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of The American Dream” is an eye-opening documentary focused on the end of the age of affordable oil. The film details how and why the price of fossil fuel around the world is continuously increasing leading to the introduction of alternatives to oil. According to the film, the shortage in affordable oil is then connected to how the modern suburbs are turning into the slums of the future.

Initially, the suburbs were developed as a means of sustainable life. Living in the suburbs is less expensive to living in the city. However, as more and more people started using vehicles to move around, the suburbs started to lose its benefits of urban life. These days, living in the suburbs is perceived as a luxury and no longer as a way to utilize environment-friendly sources of energy.
