Nuremberg: Nazis on Trial EP1/3

Nuremberg was a German city that has come to assume a noteworthy mark in history for being the regular venue of rallies of the now defunct National Socialist Party of the older Germany. Bearing this reputation, just soon after the end of World War II, in November 1945, it was chosen by the victors to host the first ever trials for international crimes. Originally intended by Adolf Hitler to be reconstructed as the “party city,” at that date it was consumed by irony as 21 former leaders, with a drastic variety of backgrounds, of the former party stood on trial, defending their lives.

The defendants were all high profile personalities of the socialist party including Hitler’s would-have-been successor Hermann Goering, as well as junior representatives of senior officers who chose the path of suicide over capture including that of Joseph Goebbels, and Heinrich Himmler.

This series chronicles the accounts of major Nazi personalities involved in the Nuremberg Trials. It is the first part of a three-part special, originally released in 2006 in a documentary format. This episode follows the account of Hitler’s chief architect and Minister of Armaments and War Production, Berthold Konrad Hermann Albert Speer.
