The Millau Viaduct in France is considered to be the tallest road bridge in the world. It is definitely an innovation in engineering and design, being a cable-stayed bridge. It stretches through the River Tarn valley near Millau in the south of France.
Millau Sky Bridge is a documentary that follows Richard Hammond as he tries to look further into the details of the construction and the design of the Millau Viaduct which was done by the French structural engineer Michel Virlogeux and British architect Norman Foster. It has a height of 343 metres (1,125 ft) and a total length of 2460 meters (8,070 ft.). The cost for the construction of this bridge was around 400 million Euros. After its inauguration on December 14, 2004, it has received multiple recognition and has been consistently included in listings of great engineering achievements. In 2006, it has been awarded the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering Outstanding Structure Award.
