Mao’s Bloody Revolution Revealed

This documentary film features Mao Tse-Tung, considered to be one of the 20th century’s most controversial leaders. Author of Mao: A Life and former BBC correspondent Philip Short. We are taken through Mao’s life – from his childhood to his rise to power until his death.

The first half of the documentary shows the Chinese revolution up to the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. The second half focuses more on what is termed as the Cultural Revolution decade which happened from 1966 to 1976. We get to see the rise of the Cultural Revolution until it reached its height. Then we get to see the remaining part of the documentary dedicated to the death Mao Tse-Tung. This film is a balanced mix of the traditional western anti-communist accounts and the official revisionist Chinese state’s account of the Bloody Revolution.
