The icaros songs are types of healing songs recorded in the Peruvian Amazon. Its origins are traced 50 kilometers from the city of Iquitos in Peru. The place is frequented by spiritual leaders to conduct Ayahuasca ceremonies or Jage shots.
The word icaro is derived from the word ‘Ikaray’ which means to “to blow smoke in order to heal.” According to spiritual leaders and shamans, the icaro was taught to them by the plant spirits. They use the icaro to bring on the visionary effects of ayahuasca.
