“Dambusters Declassified” is a documentary film first shown by BBC in 2010 that features television actor and vintage place enthusiast Martin Shaw. It exposes new information about the Dambusters raid performed by the RAF during the Second World War.
Being a licensed pilot himself, Shaw flies vintage Stearman trainers that several wartime pilots used to learn how to fly. His route included the Upper Derwent Valley in the Peak District above Sheffield. Many recognize this place to be where the 617 squadron practiced dropping their bombs before they commenced their Dambusters raid. Their mission was to destroy the German dams.
The film was based on the 1955 movie entitled “The Dam Busters” which portrayed the lives of the RAF pilots involved. In this documentary, a different and more realistic perspective is shown to the viewers.
