One of the most common surgical procedures being performed in the United States today is C-section or caesarian. C-section is typically performed when normal childbirth could endanger the life of the mother and the child.
However, the World Health Organization has declared that the performance of C-sections must be less than 15% of the total number of deliveries. In the United States, the number of C-sections is almost 30%.
There is a clamor for the clarification of when C-sections should really be done and when normal childbirth is an option. Most doctors and hospitals are being accused of choosing caesarian operation because it is more expensive and of course, more profitable.
“Birthrights: The Risk of Choice” is a documentary film produced and released by Al Jazeera and it aims to prove the safety and necessity of performing C-sections. It presents arguments from both sides and in the end; leave the answers to the viewers.
