Bearing the name of a movie icon that typically played the role of heroes, John Wayne Gacy, Jr. was far from the good guy persona we know so well onscreen. He was an American serial killer who raped and killed at least 33 young men and boys between 1972 until 1978. Of his victims, 26 bodies were discovered in the small crawl space he built underneath the basement of his house. Three other bodies were also found scattered on his property while the others were located in the Des Plaines River.
The media and authorities named Gacy Jr. “Killer Clown” as he was known to hold huge parties where he would dress up as Pogo the Clown to entertain children. Gacy Jr. was executed by lethal injection on May 10, 1994 at the Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, IL. In order to learn more about what could cause someone such a psychotic behavior, his lawyers hired a forensic psychiatrist. However, the results of the tests gave them no real answers as Gacy Jr.’s brain was found to be normal.
