Dead Men’s Tales: Harry Houdini

Born Erik Weisz on March 24, 1874, Harry Houdini is considered as the world’s best escape artist and illusionist of all time. As an escapologist, he specializes in all sorts of escape tricks, sometimes even involving strait jackets or the police. During his career, he performed three versions of the trick where he was buried alive.

His first attempt was done in 1917 where he was buried six feet deep into the earth without using a casket, this performance almost cost him his life. He barely made it out alive, causing a near-breakdown after the performance.

His personal thoughts on this particular incident were written in his diary stating that “the weight of the earth is killing.”
