How fully do you really know yourself? Among every person in your life right now, the one who should be able to know you best is you. But then that’s not always the case for most of us. We are all complex beings. Not one of us is gifted with only one inherent trait or talent. The thing is, majority of us live through our lives not even getting the chance to discover this whole other aspect of ourselves.
It’s mainly because of the society we live in. We are all unconsciously trying to prove ourselves to the world. We construct the decisions we make and the paths we take around how we think we should be. Because of this undercurrent of pressure and expectation that’s around us, we feel that we owe it the world to live our lives a particular way. The only people who you really are indebted to are your parents, because they helped give you life, and they’re not even demanding such things from you.
So we should all stop trying to please everybody. We should stop factoring other people in whenever we make decisions for ourselves. We sometimes fail to realize that every decision we make, no matter how small, matters. These decisions slowly paint out the person that we’re going to be and the life that we’re going to live. We shouldn’t be taking these things lightly. So instead of trying so hard to please everybody, you should focus more on yourself.
If you really think about it, our biggest “enemy” here isn’t the people around us. Although they are a major catalyst in our decision making process, they aren’t fully to blame. At the end of the day, it’s our call. We are the ones who get to decide on what we do. If we let ourselves be swayed by the influence of other people, then it’s on us. Yes, society and the people around you play a huge role in pushing you to go for certain things. But if you really think about it, you are in control of what you do or don’t do. Therefore, it’s also up to you whether or not you’ll let the pressures of society get to you.
You get to choose if you’ll live the life that you’ve always wanted for yourself because you are the only one who can make the decisions to get you there. Nothing in our lives is instant, everything is a journey. So if you want to become the person that you think you’re capable of becoming, then you should start changing things up. You can’t expect to garner different results if you do the same things that you’ve always been doing over and over again. Start taking risks. Those things that you’ve always wanted to do but never even dared to? Go ahead and do them. That haircut that you’ve always wanted to try out? Get it. It’s never too late to go after what you really want and become who you really want to be. Life is a continuous learning experience, that’s the beauty of it. It’s all up to you to decide what it is that you want to learn.
