We live our lives in constant search of purpose. We waste time and energy in finding things that would make us happy. But somehow, at the end of the day, we still end up finding ourselves empty. Why is it that we could never seem to find contentment within our lives? No matter how many material things we have, how much friends and people surround us, we still feel the need to find more?
Maybe it’s because we’re asking the wrong questions or we’re looking at our lives from the wrong angle. Whatever it is, we should just take a second and think things through. Life isn’t as unfair and hopeless as we claim it to be. All we need to do is look at things differently. So whenever life is giving you a beating, here are a few tricks of the trade to remember:
First, you never stop going to school. Life is an endless learning experience. The problems we face and encounter are there to make us better. They are designed to sharpen our senses, strengthen our guts and make us better equipped to battle the world’s challenges. If you keep thinking that all the problems that you are facing is the universe’s idea of a cosmic joke, then you would definitely end up frustrated and depressed. And what’s worse, that kind of thinking doesn’t solve your problems at all. If anything, it would only make matters worse. So you stop feeling sorry for yourself and go ahead and take these problems as challenges.
Second, mistakes are a myth. In life there is no such thing as a mistake. All that exists are choices and lessons. With each choice you decide to take or make, there is always an equivalent lesson. Once we begin to see that, we can be better and wiser at making choices. Learn what you can, when you can. You make the choices that you do for a reason. And that reason would only reveal itself to you if you pay close enough attention. So you don’t give up just because things seem hard, you should keep going.
Third, enough with the blaming game. It might be a little embarrassing to admit, but people tend to be poor at owning up to their faults. What we try to do is point fingers. We tell ourselves that it’s not our fault why we find ourselves in dire situations. We blame other people, we blame timing, and we even go as far as blaming life. But that’s not the solution. That right there is the reason why we can’t move forward with ourselves. No one is in control of our lives but us. We navigate, we call the shots. So whatever we encounter in each turn that we make, we should face it head on and take full responsibility.
Life isn’t as terrible as we think. We shouldn’t be developing a negative attitude towards everything. Bitterness doesn’t do anyone any good. Instead of taking life as an enemy, we should consider it our friend and teacher. If we develop this positive outlook in life, not only will we become happier, but we’d also be able to achieve the things we didn’t even think possible.
