Philip Wollen : Animals Should Be Off The Menu debate

Considered as one of the most prominent Australians in the world, Philip Wollen was the vice president of Citibank. He is an expert in corporate finance, mergers, and acquisitions. The Australian Business Magazine listed Wollen as one of the Top 40 Australian head-hunted executives when he was just 34 years old.

However, Wollen decided to choose philanthropy rather than resting his laurels and spending the rest of his life in opulence. He donated most of his fortune and dedicated his life living simply and helping others. As of today, he has become a dedicated humanitarian running projects devoted for animals, children, the sick, poor, and the environment. His philanthropic work earned him the Order of Australia in 2005 as well as being an awardee for the Australian of the year in 2007.

In 2012, a series of debates held by Intelligence Squared began with the very touchy subject about eating meat. Two teams were pitted against each other to present their arguments for the proposition that animals should be taken off the menu. After much deliberation, Philip Wollen spoke for the proposition and actively encouraged people to shun meat products. At the end of the debate, approximately 73.6% of the audience agreed that meat has to be taken off the menu.
