This is an excerpt from the 1981 film “ My Dinner with Andre” starring Andre Gregory and Wallace Shawn, written by Gregory and Shawn, and directed by Louis Malle.
The two characters Andre and Gregory sits down in chic restaurant in New York City discussing their opposing philosophical views in life.
In this clip, they argue about how humanity is bored and how this boredom is a form of brainwashing by the government. How their life at present is like living the life of a robot and that the people themselves create the very same environment that they want to escape from.
How 1960s represent the birth of the last of the human beings and that from then on, only robots remain; how life truly exists in the planet and how some human beings will create another world in order to preserve life.
These two men are both on a search for meaning in their lives, and in life in general, but have drastically different methods and ideas for getting there. Nevertheless they raised philosophical thoughts that still ring true to this very day and how we as humanity are somehow being manipulated within our very own environment.
