The Life of Buddha

“The Life of Buddha” is a 2006 BBC documentary directed by filmmaker Kritsaman Wattananarong and written by Aumpira Wongthamma. This is a biography of the life of Siddharta Gautama and how he entered the life of Buddhism. The film includes artifacts that tell the story of Siddharta Gautama’s life and how he established the principles of Buddhism. Viewers will also get to learn more about modern Buddhism and see interviews with the Dalai Lama and other notable Buddhists.

As a child, Siddhartha Gautama was born into royalty. He was raised in luxury and was very much oblivious to the suffering outside of his world. However, after he got married and had his own child, he took opportunity he had to discover the world and see what’s out there. For the first time in his life, he stared at sickness and death. He learned about diseases and daily sufferings of men, women and children.

This is where Siddhartha Gautama’s spiritual journey to enlightenment began. He shunned his former life, travelled the world and turned himself into a spiritualist in a bid to escape suffering, and death, which inevitably caught up with him in the end.
