Nile Rodgers The Hitmaker

Nile Rodgers The Hitmaker is a 2013 documentary centered on the life and career of Nile Rodgers. The film, which was directed by Martyn Stevens, features a star-studded appearances from Chic members, singers Norma Jean, Alfa Anderson and Fonzi Thornton and keyboard player Rob Sabino as well as recording engineers Bob Clearmountain and Robert Drake and a host of other artists and musicians.

Best known as the half of disco-innovators, Chic, Rodgers is not only an iconic figure in the music and entertainment scene, his music defined the sound of the 70s and the 80s. Some of his most recent works includes a collaborative song with Daft Punk as well as fronting an electronic music lobbying group.

Born to heroin-addicted parents in New York, Rodgers started his musical career the time he picked up a guitar as a teen. He would later be known as one of the 70s and 80s’ biggest star, with his band, Chic. Chic eventually disbanded in the early 80s due to creative differences and substance abuse. The band would later reform in the mid-90s until his musical partner, Bernard Edwards, died in 1996. The film recounts the captivating story of a man who represented the best of music in the 70’s and 80’s.
